Why storage baskets are indispensable for an organised house
Sarah Corbett-Winder's house is a playful take on traditional grandeur. Underneath her kitchen dining bench, she has placed storage baskets in custom cubby holes.
If you had the chance to design a house from scratch, what would be on your list of non-negotiables? Perhaps you'd want crittall doors between the kitchen and the garden, or perhaps you've always dreamed of having a roll top bath, or four poster bed?
As this little thought experiment may have proven, we often get seduced by the 'sexier' elements of decoration, overlooking the more practical additions we could make to our houses. All too frequently, the thing that suffers is storage, and now that we all spend more time than ever at home, it's vital that every 'thing' has its place to prevent a space feeling overwhelmed.
So what's the solution for houses that don't have the storage required to keep the debris of daily life at bay? The answer comes in the form of the storage basket. A secret weapon of designers around the globe, the humble basket can be a catch-all for all kinds of detritus. A stylish pair in the corner of your living room can be an attractive feature and a home for your sofa throws. A woven basket can fill the awkward nook in your bedroom, whilst providing a space for half finished magazines or newspapers.
Investing in a set of storage baskets is not just a practical solution to your problems, but a decorative one too. Below, we've compiled some of our favourite examples of the handy accessories, plus, plenty of inspiring examples.
